El mercado de la aviación comercial está a punto de experimentar una sacudida sin precedentes. El recién llegado C919, un avión de fabricación china, ha irrumpido en el mercado con la ambición de desafiar el dominio de los gigantes Airbus y Boeing.
Con un diseño atractivo y un precio más asequible, el avión chino podría convertirse en una alternativa tentadora para muchas compañías aéreas, especialmente en mercados emergentes.
China lanza el Comac C919, nuevo avión comercial
Tras casi dos décadas de arduo trabajo en investigación y desarrollo, China ha culminado con éxito la producción del Comac C919, su primer avión comercial de pasajeros de tamaño medio y fuselaje estrecho, el cual ya se encuentra disponible en el mercado.
Se trata de un avión con capacidad para transportar de 156 a 168 pasajeros y un alcance máximo de 5.555 kilómetros. Que pretende disputar el mercado de los aviones de corto y medio alcance, actualmente liderado por Airbus A320 y Boeing 737, lo que ha puesto en guardia al consorcio europeo.
De hecho, ante la inminente competencia del mercado chino, Airbus ha comunicado a sus trabajadores la necesidad de intensificar sus esfuerzos para mantener su posición líder. Reconocen el riesgo potencial del C919, según han podido confirmar fuentes cercanas a la compañía.
La producción del C919 se enmarca dentro de la estrategia china de desarrollar una industria aeronáutica propia y así disminuir su dependencia de los proveedores tradicionales de aviones comerciales.
De esta forma, China ha invertido aproximadamente 50.000 millones de dólares en el desarrollo del C919, según estimaciones del Centro de Estudios Estratégicos e Internacionales de Washington.
Precio, pedidos y certificaciones del C919
La entrada del C919 en escena ha generado una gran expectativa entre las aerolíneas, que buscan reducir costos y ampliar sus flotas.
Si bien el C919 se encuentra en operación exclusiva en China, su presencia en este mercado constituye una amenaza latente para el duopolio de Airbus y Boeing en la industria aeronáutica. A modo ilustrativo, su cartera de pedidos supera las 1.000 órdenes de compra.
Aunque el C919 aún no ha obtenido las homologaciones necesarias en Estados Unidos y Europa, expertos indican que su éxito en África y Asia podría socavar significativamente el duopolio de Airbus y Boeing.
Y es que, uno de los factores diferenciadores del C919 es su precio, que resulta mucho más atractivo para los compradores. Así, el costo de venta de este avión chino se calcula en aproximadamente 70 millones de dólares.
En comparación, el Boeing 737 tiene un precio de lista que varía entre 85 y 115 millones de dólares, mientras que el Airbus A320 se sitúa entre los 100 y 110 millones de dólares. Sin embargo, también se señala que estos últimos (Airbus y Boeing) enfrentan el desafío de reducir costos, algo que según las fuentes, no están logrando de manera efectiva.
Ahora bien, tecnológicamente hablando, el C919 no está desactualizado. Al contrario, se dice que es una copia casi exacta de sus rivales. Y es que, inicialmente, el avión fue construido con partes fabricadas por compañías occidentales. Sin embargo, Estados Unidos acusa a Comac de haber copiado ilegalmente esta tecnología para desarrollar su propia versión.
Expansión en Suramérica con Total Linhas Aéreas
En estos momentos, Comac se encuentra en las etapas finales para comenzar a operar en Sudamérica. La aerolínea brasileña Total Linhas Aéreas reveló a finales de septiembre sus planes de adquirir cuatro aviones C919 a través de un contrato que esperan firmar este mes.
Después de formalizar la compra, la aerolínea solicitará a la ANAC la autorización necesaria para incorporar el C919 a su flota y operar vuelos comerciales en Brasil.
Total Linhas Aéreas también ha destacado que el avión chino se ajusta a su presupuesto y que la entrega está prevista para marzo. Este acuerdo resulta especialmente relevante considerando los desafíos actuales de Airbus y Boeing, como la escasez de suministros y las huelgas laborales, respectivamente.
