El empleo en el sector turismo demuestra un apreciable crecimiento de 3,5% anual. Más que el promedio de la economía total que es del 2%. Lo cual demuestra un desempeño económico vigoroso de un sector tradicionalmente notable en España.
El sector turismo trae buenas noticias. Este sector de la actividad económica incluye subsectores como los viajes, el hospedaje y el transporte de turistas. De allí que ocupa hoy a casi tres millones de personas, en concreto a 2.965.784 de empleados. Además, los trabajadores aumentaron en más de 100 mil en el segundo trimestre de 2024.
La solidez de las actividades turísticas se expresa en el hecho de que el 14% de todos los empleados del país trabajan en este sector. Este año, lo más destacado no ha sido el aumento del empleo. Destaca más la mejora de las condiciones laborales de los trabajadores del sector turismo en términos de estabilidad.
Si bien las condiciones específicas de trabajo pueden variar, la mejora se puede constatar en el tipo y los términos de los contratos. Por ejemplo, los trabajadores que han firmado un contrato fijo han aumentado en un 8,4% en los últimos doce meses. Lo que ya significa 12 trimestres de crecimiento.
En el turismo crece el empleo fijo mientras disminuye el temporal
Mientras los empleados que firmaron un contrato temporal aumentaron en un apreciable 8,4%, los que han sido contratados a tiempo parcial han disminuido en un 14,5%. El resultado salta a la vista. De acuerdo al análisis realizado por Turespaña basándose en números oficiales de la EPA, el 84% de los empleados turísticos son indefinidos.
Lo interesante del caso es que se puede establecer un paralelismo entre los empleos fijos y temporales en el sector turismo. Así como los de la economía en general. En este sentido, el porcentaje de empleo fijo entre los trabajadores del sector turismo es prácticamente el mismo que el de la economía.
Algo similar ocurre con la tasa de contratos temporales, la cual se sitúa alrededor del 16%. Esto, tanto en el sector del turismo como a nivel del mercado laboral en general. Otro factor de mejora apunta al carácter de la jornada laboral. En esta los trabajadores a tiempo completo han aumentado un 4,4% en los últimos 12 meses. Esto quiere decir, 3 de cada 4, o un 75,2%.
Incluso, el nivel de paro en el sector, pese a haber escalado unas décimas hasta 9,1% frente al 8,5% de hace un año. El paro en el sector es inferior al que exhibe la economía en general, el cual asciende hasta el 11,3%.
¿Aumento del desempleo en un contexto donde se han creado decenas de miles de puestos de trabajo?
¿Cómo se explica el hecho de que haya aumentado el paro en medio de un crecimiento acelerado de los trabajadores del sector turismo? Es sencillo: la población activa que busca trabajo en el sector ha crecido un 4,3%. Porcentaje que supera el 3,5% de creación de nuevos empleos.
Dos actividades principales han sido las protagonistas de las cifras que ha alcanzado el sector del turismo en el último año: las agencias de viaje y el transporte de turistas. La primera actividad ha registrado un crecimiento del 8%, mientras que la segunda ha alcanzado un sólido 8,6%.
Cabe destacar, que la actividad de las agencias de viaje fue de las más golpeadas durante el periodo del COVID. Así como la que se ha recuperado más lentamente de tal crisis. No obstante, los números del último año dan cuenta de una firme recuperación. Hasta el punto de estar impulsando al sector.
Un pequeño grupo de comunidades autónomas que concentran el mayor flujo de turistas son las que generan más empleo. Esas comunidades son la Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid, Baleares, Cataluña, Canarias y Andalucía. Juntas, concentran al 75,4% de los trabajadores turísticos.
